Cosplayer Interviews-CheekerCosplay

Hello, everyone, today will be our new cosplayer interviews day, this time CheekerCosplay will join us and share her cosplay story 🙂

steampunk_psylocke_cosplay_01

  • Introduce you and CheekerCosplay first 🙂

My real name is Megan; I’m 19 years old and currently living just shy of New Orleans, Louisiana. I’ve been cosplaying since 2008 and I’ve made over forty costumes to date. (Not including commissions)

  • How did you get started in with cosplay, what was your first cosplay?

I was part of the anime club in high school and our teacher was a cosplayer. She introduced me (as well as everyone else in the club) to the hobby. The summer after my freshmen year was the fourth year of Louisiana’s big convention, MechaCon, and I was very much under the impression that I needed to have a cosplay in order to attend. (I’m not quite sure why) After waiting until the week of the convention, I finally decided what character I wanted to be. One of my cousins and I stayed up all night the night before sewing our butts off to complete Kairi’s pink dress from Kingdom Hearts II. Unfortunately, I have no photos of the costume, and it doesn’t exist anymore.

  • What has been your favourite cosplay?

Right now my favorite cosplay is a tie between Panty (from Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt) and BeastBoy (from Teen Titans). Panty’s personality is so much different than the characters I normally portray, I love it! I also feel like I pull off her character really well. I feel like I actually look the part, which is awesome! My friend and I have won two awards as Panty and Stocking as well, it;s a really awesome feeling. As for BeastBoy, he is just obnoxious and outrageous. It was the second time I had ever crossplayed and I loved it. So many people were convinced I was a male, it was hilarious. I got to be loud and obnoxious and do stupid stuff all around New Orleans Comic-Con, and I got to be green! Haha. I really can’t wait to get to cosplay him again.

  • Describe your creative process for starting a costume through completion!

I’m really bad about overworking myself and picking way too many characters I want to cosplay at once. Usually, one character will really stand out though, and I will just be dying to get a head-start on them. The first thing I always tend to do is buy a wig. Wigs are my favorite thing to shop online for, you can never have enough! I’ll sit and think about how I want to make the outfit for a few days, or even weeks, before I got and buy fabric. Normally during that time, I’ll order the other things I need, like shoes or contacts. Once I purchase the fabric, I sit down and draw out what I’m making and the pieces I’m going to need. I have a stash of patterns that I tend to use or alter to make most of my things, although I will also draft my own or, honestly, just guess and cut pieces out. (Which works surprisingly well most of the time) Once all the pieces are cut out, they’re pinned and sewn together! (With some procrastination in the middle, of course) Then I go through a series of trying things on and altering them and trying them on again until everything fits right. Then it’s time to put the tiny finishing touches (like the accessories or minor details) and prepare to debut the costume for good! Normally I don’t try on the entire cosplay with make-up and all that good stuff until the day of the con. So it’s always a surprise! (I’m not sure if that is a good or a bad thing, haha

  • Do you have any favorite Asian films?

I actually don’t watch a lot of foreign movies aside from anime. But right now, Summer Wars is one of my favorite movies of all time. I love everything about it, the concept, the art, the characters! The movie was so well put together, I cried when it was over because I was just so overwhelmed by how great is was.

  • What is the biggest learning curve you have learned about the cosplay in the past years?

Patterns! I used to never use them, EVER. They just made my head hurt and left a mess all over my living room. It took a long time and a lot of convincing, but finally I started using them, and I must say, my costumes started looking a lot better. Although I still won’t use them from time to time, it’s nice to have them for when they’re needed. I’m also terrible at styling wigs and making boot covers, but hopefully I will get the hang of it eventually.

  • Do you have one piece of advice that you would give to cosplay virgins?

Cosplay what you want and not what you think other people will like! Also know your limits when it comes to making something. It’s better to wait until you’re skilled enough than to try and end up with something you’re going to wish never existed. And lastly, remember to stay strong, work hard, and remember to have fun!

  • Lastly, what is your con schedule looking like through early 2013?

As of right now, my plans are for Katsucon, MegaCon, and Anime Matsuri; none of which are in my home state. 2013 is feeling kinda like “go big or go home!”

Thank you Megan share her real cosplay story at Miccostumes.com, I’m seeking a sponsor opportunity for her, so here we go!

Cosplayer Interviews – Amandine

World of Warcraft cosplay

Drawing attention from most people, certainly also including us by a stunning World of Warcraft Robes of the Triumvirate cosplay, this cosplayer also accepted our interview today. She is known as Mandine83 on DA. So probably, you have heard of this name rather than her real name. This is a French girl who shows us lots of excellent cosplay works. And the one found by us is one of her latest works. You can see more information about her on her DA page. Or keep reading for her interview content here.

1. Please introduce yourself first.

I’m Amandine, I’m 18 years old. In the cosplay my nickname is Koni (in relation to my first cosplay). I like challenges. That’s why I chose the universe of World Of Warcraft (WoW) for my costumes.

2. What does cosplay mean to you?

Personally, the cosplay is a pleasure. When we play a character from a manga/anime/game, we have to play its personality as an actor on conventions, on stage and above all during the photo shoots. For me, the cosplay is a way to out of the daily life and to dream.

3. What and when was your first cosplay?

My first cosplay was created during the summer 2009 and was Konan, a character from Naruto.

4. What is your most memorable cosplay experience?

My most memorable cosplay experience is certainly my first pass (time?) on stage during the individual contest of the South Japan Expo 2010 (Japan Expo sud in fr) which was a great moment of emotion and even more when I received the favourite (best pick) prize. In spite of the excitement and the stress generated by the contests, (they) made me want to chain the individual contests during the conventions.

5. What’s your favorite photo shoot?

World of Warcraft Robes of the Triumvirate cosplay

This is my favorite photo shoot.

6. What’s your favorite anime/manga/game character to cosplay as?

I love Blood Elves from WoW because they are very beautiful however they remain demonic and diabolic.

7. Any cosplay plan in future?

My next cosplays still remain in the WoW’s universe:

a. Tier 11 Priest

b. Tier 6 Warlock

8. Do you make your costumes yourself or buy them?

I think my costumes are … impossible to find on the market ^^. More seriously, I make all my costumes myself (costumes, dress, shoulder, weapon etc. all are created by me)

World of Warcraft cosplay2

9. Any other cosplayers you like?

They can be seen here and here.

10. Do some changes happen to you after cosplay?

Cosplay gave me insurance in the everyday life thanks to the contests and took away my shyness. I learnt to control my stress and to improve my creation/realization skills. But cosplay brought me a lot of happiness!

11. Any advice you wanna share with cosplay newbies?

Never buy your cosplay on the internet! This doesn’t bring you any pleasure when you will wear your costumes. You have to know that when you make your costume yourself, you have a greater pleasure to show it and pass on stage and a bigger joy! My last advice: TAKE YOUR TIME to make your costume, be careful and hardworking!

Cosplayer Interviews – Nebulaluben

Leeloo Mina Lekatariba Laminatcha Ekbat D Sebat Cosplay

A stunning Final Fight Poison cosplay performance drew our attention at the first glimpse days ago. Now, that pretty Spanish girl, known as Nebulaluben at DA, accepts our interview. Below, you can see what she thinks of cosplay and experience shared by her – an experienced and excellent cosplayer absolutely. Now, let’s begin.

1. Please introduce yourself first.

My name is Laura, I’m from Madrid (Spain) and I’m an occupational therapist. My main hobbies are playing videogames, playing the piano and, of course, cosplaying. I usually cosplay with my boyfriend, Erikku-kun, who supports and helps me.

2. What does cosplay mean to you?

Cosplay means creativity. It’s an art! I love sewing and wearing beautiful and eye-catching looks and clothes that I can’t wear on my everyday life. I also like it when I make or see a cosplay of a character I love. It’s as if, for one day, fiction comes to life! I have a fantastic time while cosplaying, from the moment I decide the costume I’m going to make till the day I am wearing it at the con or at a photoshoot. But, above all, cosplay means lots of fun for me.

Warfare Cosplay

3. What and when was your first cosplay?

My first cosplay was Shanoa from Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia. It was in 2009.

4. What is your most memorable cosplay experience?

That day we were wearing our Lost Planet 2 costumes (on may 2011) on stage and people started applauding so enthusiastically when they saw our Gatling Gun working. It was a very exciting moment for us. Here you can watch it.

5. What’s your favorite photo shoot?

Soulcalibur Talim Cosplay

I find it quite difficult to choose one photoshoot. We are very lucky to have wonderful photographers as friends and they make each photoshoot better than the previous one so… Maybe If I had to choose one I would choose my favorite costume, which is Talim from Soul Calibur IV.
Juri Han CosplayOr this one from Street Fighter, because we took really funny pics.

6. What’s your favorite anime/manga/game character to cosplay as?

More than a character, I like to cosplay as one type of character in general. I usually cosplay as warrior women. I don’t like kawaii or precious princess characters. I like characters who wear weapons and who are strong and self-sufficient ones. And I usually cosplay as video game or Sci-Fi characters.

7. Any cosplay plan in future?

Yes! I have almost finished Satele Shan costume from Star Wars The Old Republic, I’m also making Tali’Zorah Vas Normandy from Mass Effect 2 and Rinrin (with my boyfriend as Black Baron) from Madworld.

8. Do you make your costumes yourself or buy them?

I always make them myself. My boyfriend and I are a team: I like sewing and he’s very handy making props. So I sew our costumes and he usually makes the weapons.

Zafina Cosplay

9. Any other cosplayers you like?

I like Jia Jem, Love Squad, Ichigokitty, Yukigodbless, Fevereon, Volpin Props, Evil-FX, Adelhaid… And from Spain I love Virchan, Zihark, Lirin, Sumyuna, Onirica… They inspire me a lot and we are good friends too.

10. Do some changes happen to you after cosplay?

I began cosplaying because I finished my studies and I had a lot of free time. That situation made me begin having anxiety crisis, so I was recommended to have a full time hobby. Cosplaying makes me stay busy and not think about problems. I’ve also known lots of wonderful people while cosplaying and this hobby lets me stay calm and creative.

11. Any advice you wanna share with cosplay newbies?

Make the cosplays you like and have fun!
