5 Ways To Make Sailor Moon Cosplay Star Wand and Crescent Wand

Here I’ve collected several ways to make a Sailor Moon cosplay wand, you may find one that you like.

Method One

Color printing: This is the most direct and simple way which is completely suitable for people who are not very good at handwork. You only need to print the accessories on the right parts of the following pictures by color printing. Cut each part of the wand and stick them together. A sailor moon wand made of paper is finished.

Advantage: simple, easy and quick.

Disadvantage: not very stereoscopic and vivid.

Method Two

If you would like to make a wand more stereoscopic than color printing, you can use 3D paper to make the wand. Of course it will be a little more difficult than the first method.

(1). Make a star as the following process by 3D paper, and draw the color and patterns as in Sailor Moon with paints.

(2). Roll a 3D paper to the shape of a cylinder as the bar of the wand and draw the color and patterns.

(3). Stick each part together with super glue.

Method Three

Use polymer clay and wood to make the wand. By this method you can make a completely stereoscopic wand.

Materials: (a). Part of Wood: a cylindrical wood, 4 wood balls (including one biggest, one smaller and two smallest balls), 2 heart-shaped wood (one of which is a bit smaller than the other one). (b). Part of Clay: a small bottle of polymer clay. (c). A utility knife. (d). A pair of disposable gloves. (e). Super glue.

Process: (1). Use the utility knife to cut the clay into the shape of a star, curve a smaller star along its edge. (2). Knead 5 tiny balls on the top of the 5 angles. The sixth angle is excluded because it will be jointed to the main part of the wand. (3). Poke holes at the positions shown in the above right picture. The size of the holes must fit the dowels. (4). Apply super glue on the dowels and insert the dowels into the holes to joint each part together. After the clay become dry, the wand is finished. Of course you can color it as in Sailor Moon.

Method Four (Adapted from the article by Jellybean)

If you are quite good at handwork, the following steps of making a Sailor Moon’s crescent wand may be used as a reference. This way is more vivid and complex than the three methods mentioned above.

Materials:

Disposable plastic gloves

Piece of thin card as a template for the crescent moon shape

1x 500g pk of Air Dry Modeling Clay

Bowl of lukewarm water

Hot Glue Gun

1x tube of Iridescent Medium

1x tube of Acrylic Paint (Pink)

1x tube of Acrylic Paint (Metallic Gold)

Method Five (Adapted from the article by onesky-1destiny)

This is to make the extended version of Sailor Moon’s Moon Stick as seen in the first arc of the manga. You can use this tutorial to make the traditional hand sized Moon Stick by using shorter/thinner PVC and making slightly different details.

Materials:
a. (3-4) 2oz packs yellow polymer clay (I’m using crastsmart brand from Michaels)
b. (1-2) 2oz packs white polymer clay
c. (1) small bottle pink acrylic paint (I’m using Apple Barrel in Bright Magenta 20591)
d. (1) small bottle yellow acrylic paint (I’m using Apple Barrel in Yellow 20502)
e. (1) small bottle pearly white acrylic paint (I’m using FolkArt in Metallic Pearl White 659)
f. (1) can pink spray paint (I’m using Krylon in Watermelon) (OPTIONAL way of painting)
g. (5-6) feet of 3/4″ in PVC pipe, cut into two sections (I’m 5’4″ and I’m using about 66″, or 5’6″ worth of pipe)
h. (1) 3/4″ PVC pipe coupling (used to connect the two pieces)
i. (2) 3/4″ PVC end caps
j. (1) 30mm or 40mm faceted crystal sphere (I buy mine here: [link])
size is up to you, 30mm is a bit bigger than a quarter I use this size for the regular size Moon Stick, and 40mm is about the size of a golf ball which I use for the tall Moon Stick

DIY Sakura’s Feather from Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle

This feather is essencial for your cosplay of Sakura from Tsubasa.

Tsubasa 7

Some backgroud info for the feather:

At the beginning of the series, Sakura grows wings from her back, which dissolve into magical feathers that are in fact pieces of her soul. These contain her memories since she was born, and if not retrieved, she will die without them.

Since these feathers represent her soul, these hold an enourmous amount of magical power. Each of them affect their surroundings differently. Whenever Mokona senses a feather, it goes “Meyko!” to alert the group.

Tsubasa

First, prepare the materials: paper, iron wire, scissors, tape or glue.

Tsubasa_1

Second, cut the paper.

Tsubasa_2

In this way you’ll get two same pieces of diamond.

Third, put the iron wire between the two pieces of paper and fix with glue.

Tsubasa_3

Now you can draw the pattern on it. Actually you can draw it after you cut the pieces, but I prefer to do it now.

Tsubasa_4

You can see the pattern on Pic 1, mine may not be good enough, please google it.

Last step, cut it to be like a feather.

Tsubasa_5

Actually if you’re too lazy to cut the paper, you can simply get a feather and draw on it.

(PS: the iron wire should be sofr, not too thick.)

DIY Tutorial for Matoi Ryuko’s Cosplay Chest Plate from Kill la Kill

Matoi Ryuko

The Matoi Ryuko cosplay costume we offered includes the chest protector but it is made of PU leather. If you want it to be more firm like a real chest plate, read this blog and learn to make one by yourself.

Key point: Curve shapes can be easily made by using polythene board, you can also use fiberboard instead.

Material: polythene board(thickness 2mm and 5mm), artificial leather(brown and dark brown), newspaper, nylon belt, snap button(2 set), belt buckle(1), gum tape, sign pen, cutter, G10 glue, glue.

0

01. Cut the newspaper
Put the newspaper on your chest, draw around the bulge with a sign pen. Cut it around the line you drew. Cut it to make the newspaper flat.

1

02. Cut the polythene board
Cut two polythene boards (2mm and 5mm each) into the same shape as the newspaper. Stick them together. Draw the cross-shaped pattern on the 2mm side, and then cut the pattern out of the 2mm board only.

2

03. Stick the artificial leather
Apply G10 glue on the 2mm side, stick the brown leather onto it, press when it comes to the cross-shaped pattern, cut dark brown leather into the the same cross-shaped pattern and then stick it with glue.

3

04. Connect the nylon belt
One belt around the chest, the other one go across the shoulder from the front to the back, use the snap buttons to fix the belt and add the belt buckle. (Note: Measure your self to check the length of the belt)

DIY Tutorial for Hoozuki Sama’s Spiked Club Cosplay Prop

To cosplay as Hoozuki Sama, the spiked bat in his hand is a highlight.

It is difficult to make the whole bat shape, so it would be easier to start with a similar thing. I suggest you buy a plastic bat.

Material: vinyl bat, fibreboard(thickness 2mm and 5mm), office paper, newspaper,  artificial leather(brown and black), plastic capsule(half), cone foam board(20), plastic goldfish scooping net, string(purple), double side tape, gum tape, G10 glue, glue, cutter, scissors.

0

01. Make the main body
Use the plastic bat as a base, wrap a 5mm fibreboard(same size as the plastic capsule) with G10 glue at the front end of the bat. In order to make it bigger and bigger from the tail to the front, the middle and the tail end of the bat also need to be wrapped with fibreboard.

1

Fill the interspace with newspaper and wrap the whole bat with office paper, and use gum tape to fix. Then apply G10 glue on the office paper and stick on 5mm fibreboard.

1-1

In order to make it stick firmly, you can also apply G10 on the fibreboard and wait till it is dry. Cut 5 holes in a line in four directions on the front end of the bat, remove the extra parts.

1-2

02. Make spikes
Use cone foam board to make the spikes. Please note you can not use G10 glue here. You need to wrap the spikes with double side tape and then black artificial leather on the top. Make 20 spikes in such way. (Note: the diameter should be the same as the hole we cat before)

2

03. Make the loop part at the tail end
Cut two pieces of 3mm fibreboard about the same size as the plastic goldfish scooping net, put the net in between the boards and then stick them together. Wrap it with black artificial leather, insert it into the tail end of the bat and fix with glue.

3

04. Roll up the artificial leather
Apply G10 glue to the upper part of the bat and the black artificial leather, wrap the leather around the bat. Press slightly when comes to the holes. Do the same with the bottom part but using brown artificial leather. (Note: The width of the artificial leather is about 5cm)

4

05. Stick the spikes
Cut the leather above the holes and flatten, then stick the spikes we made earlier into the holes.

5

Tie the purple string to the loop at the tail end. And we’re done!

end

It is light so that you can wield it.
