Finally we’ve got the Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin)
(also called Vertical Maneuvering Equipment )
So excited~! o(≧v≦)o~~ Suteki~~~
What is a “three-dimensional maneuver”,
and how is it special or effective against the Titans?
Here’s a template with specific explanation.
If you’re so confused looking at the image above,
I suggest you go watch the Attack on Titan Animation.
As a cosplayer, three dimensional maneuver gear is essential to
make your cosplay perfect, no matter which character
you’re going to be and which legion you’re in.
Sure Recon Corps (Scouting/Survey Legion) use them more often.
Thanks to the “Currently Disclosable Information ”,
making belt prop and DIY the device become less difficult.
It’s a pity that I’m a girl without ingenuity so I cannot
make cosplay props, not to say such a complicated one.
If you’re determined to create one by yourself,
here’re some tutorials you may be able to use:
And if you’re not satisfied with just a prop for cosplay,
check the end of this article for a real one!
Someone joked that
“you can build a plane with the time of making a 3DMG”
First of all, imo the best of our 3DMG is the material.
People tends to use EVA to make all kinds of pros,
it’s cheap, light, easy to cut, but it gets bumpy easily
and it wouldn’t look so real with metallic gloss.
Of course you can use metal but that would be too heavy.
The one we have now is made of PVC and PMMAwhich weighs about 5kg.
[I don’t think I can walk with real metal 3DMG on. (─.─|||) ]
Some tools involved in the apparatus include (Whether our 3DMG has):
- Handgrips (Yes)
- Piston-shot grapple-hooks (Yes but no hook)
- Gas powered mechanism (Yes)
- Iron Wire Propeller with Plug in Blades (Yes)
Attack on Titan 3D MG Assembling Tutorial/Guidance
Still want to talk about some details of the gear.
Unlike normal sword, the blade looks like big cardboard cutter,
so they’re sharp enough to cut through the titan’s neck.
And there’re more blades available for replacement.
This is such a good design of the gear.
Nowadays people always think that a sword
can cut a hundred foes without getting dull,
especially it says the blade is made of ultra hardened steel.
In fact, actual real life blades used in combat quickly break
or bend or dull,so the mangaka makes it realistic
by having them switch out their blades regularly.
You may think the bulkiest part would be the lade holders.
In order to make them lighter so that cosplayers can walk freely,
the spare blades are not whole ones on our 3DMG,
just make it to look like so, they’re not removable.
Two sides of the lade holder.
so that you can tie it to your thigh.
The gas cylinders contains compressed gas
and can be injected after running out.
Ours is hollow on the inside,
And to make it stable,
the gas canisters cannot be separated from the lade holders.
We put note of “left” and “right” on it,
make sure you do it correctly.
Some people may doubt that
and then you’ll see it is possible that you fly in the sky.
I know this small part is a little shame that it doesn’t have
a hook that can be shot out.
Iron Wire Propeller(The Body of the Device).
Steel wire is supposed to stored inside the body.
Ours looks original but the wire can not go inside or around it.
And there’s no actual fan working.
See how dedicate it is !
Different characters with 3DMG on.
(We’ve got the costumes for the above characters
and some others too.You can click here to have a look.)
For those who want to get a real 3DMG,
here’s a video demonstration as well as mechanism.
Shooting hooks, winding the wire, replaceable blades
and gas cylinders, injecting the gas…
nothing is impossible! (⊙０⊙)
(Man, you’re the mechanical engineer coming from the Anime, right?)
I guess we’re all set for a war with titans then. \(^o^)/
Well, at least you’re all set for a Anime convention.
Sure you’ll be stunning with this 3DMG on any cons.
